How the Visualization Modules Work

Visual Imagery

Taps the human senses of seeing, hearing, touching and emotion.

Neuron Mirroring

Uses player’s reaction to stimulate neurons and increase learning as well as emotional response. Mirroring is how we learn, validate and invalidate actions and beliefs.
t

Interrogative Format

Uses questions that incite a positive response that is self-directed and, therefore, more likely to be meaningful and sticky to the psyche.

Positive Self-Talk

Based on previous successes, utilized to increase self-esteem and bolster performance through enhanced positive self-talk during games. This is managed through scientifically remembering positive outcomes from training or other game scenarios.

Coaching Attributes

Uses qualities coaches desire as part of imagery to build attitude and personality characteristics.

Repetition

As with any skill-building technique, repetition is programmed in the modules to increase effectiveness and sustainability of mental skills.

The Eight Visualization Modules

1 Get Ready to Play – Pre-Game Mental Training

As a soccer athlete, you need to focus your mind on the competition well before the match. This module will mentally prepare you for the elements of a soccer game by helping you become laser-focused, calm and yet bursting with energy as you demonstrate great teamwork and communication. You will be ready to anticipate the play around you and play aggressively and confidently while staying focused during the match.

2 Put Your Emotions in Check – Emotional Management Training

Your emotions directly influence your performance during a match, especially when the action trends in a negative direction. In this module, you will learn to manage your internal frustrations and improve your performance outcomes. You will see yourself bringing positive energy to the field as you overcome self-disappointment, the disappointment of a teammate, your own frustration, a dirty or aggressive player and questionable calls by the referee.

3 Keep Your Head in the Game – In-Game Mental Training

Your ability to stay laser-focused during a game is the difference between a memorable and an average performance. In this module, you will mentally train to stay focused on the present moment during the match.  You will train your brain to completely concentrate on the game, while allowing distractions and negative emotions to fall away from you. This is referred to as a State of Flow, when everything but the present events disappears around you.

4 Keep Your Foot on the Ball – Dribbling Mental Training

Your ability to move the ball with your feet is one the most critical skills on the pitch. Great dribbling requires mental focus and training. In this module, you will effectively dribble the ball while surveying the field for passes. You will use effective feints and cuts to burst past defenders and break through the defense. You will see the defender’s weaknesses and exploit them by changing speed and direction as you control the ball like a professional.

5- Control the Ball – Passing and Receiving Mental Training

Your ability to see and create passes to open teammates is critical to your team’s success. You need to train your mind to use all of your vision and to anticipate during the match. In this module, you will see yourself using both your peripheral and front vision to see the entire field. In doing so, you will be able to identify and locate teammates and opposing players around you, understand and effectively utilize open space, see optimal passes to players’ feet, demonstrate various passes when appropriate on the field, use passes to effectively counterattack and enjoy perfect first touches on the ball to assist with counterattacking.

6 Make the Shot Count – Shot-Making Mental Training

Mental distractions and the heat of competition disrupt your ability to finish your shots on goal. A team that is unable to finish during the critical moments often fails to win the critical games. In this module, you will mentally train for the various shot-making situations. You will see yourself using proper mechanics that will strengthen your mind during finishes. You will see the open space of the goal, and you will perform a number of different shots on goal successfully.

7 Get Back on Defense – Defense Mental Training

Every player on the field has a defensive role when the opposing team controls the ball.  Your ability to anticipate and make tackles during a match often is the difference between a win and a loss. In this module, you will see yourself effectively reading the attack, anticipating the ball and aggressively checking to passes.  You will see yourself marking players and space, making various tackles, playing aggressively and communicating effectively to your teammates.

8 All Eyes on the Goalie – Goalie Mental Training

Goalies have the challenging tasks of providing the last line of defense and the needed leadership for the defensive backs and other teammates. Given this, the goalie’s mental game plays a significant role in determining victory or defeat. In this module, you will see yourself providing guidance for your team, overcoming challenges while staying positive for your team and demonstrating laser focus during competition. You will see yourself as calm and yet quick to react to changes on the field. You will see yourself making various saves during a competition and the movements necessary to make those saves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this really work ?

What are the scientific techniques that are integrated into the I-imagine app?

I-imagine Visualization is based upon a series of research in neuroscience, visualization and psychology. It combines many techniques that are integrated and interwoven into the visualization modules.  Each module has elements of the following:
Mental Imagery — Visualization focused on mental toughness, self-esteem and a positive outlook.
Motor Imagery — Visualization focused on muscle movements, soccer mechanics and strengthening muscle memory.

Interrogative Questions — Visualization technique that has player respond to self-questions to strengthen resolve and mental toughness.
Successful Player Traits — Visualization techniques that assist players to envision the traits that coaches regard as needed to become a successful soccer player.

Visualization Repetition — It is imperative that repetition occurs to strengthen neuron pathways, especially since soccer players are attempting to master the use of their feet.

How often should I listen to the modules?
Like other forms of training, the more often a player uses the visualization training, the greater the effect upon performance. Ideally, a player would listen to the visualization modules at least 3-to-5 times a week.
